PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Two Calvert County residents are facing dozens of animal cruelty charges after deputies discovered more than 20 animals living in poor conditions inside a Prince Frederick home, according to court documents.
Crystal Lynn Roberts, 33, and David Allen Roberts, 34, both of Prince Frederick, were charged by criminal summons following an investigation on April 2, 2026, at a residence on Armory Road.
According to the statement of charges, deputies located approximately 20 animals inside the home, including multiple pit bull-type dogs, guinea pigs, turkeys, and ducklings. Many of the animals were found without proper access to water, adequate shelter, or clean living conditions.
Investigators reported that several dogs were kept in kennels without bedding or water, while small animals such as guinea pigs were confined in enclosures with limited food and unsanitary conditions. Poultry, including turkeys and ducklings, were found in containers with contaminated water and inadequate shelter.
Court documents further indicate that food and water sources for some animals were either insufficient or contaminated, and bedding areas were heavily soiled, raising concerns about the overall welfare of the animals.
Authorities charged both individuals with numerous counts of animal cruelty and failing to provide proper care, including failure to provide food, water, shelter, and protection from environmental conditions.
A preliminary inquiry is set for June 1, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
Under Maryland law, each count of animal cruelty or neglect can carry penalties including fines and potential jail time depending on the severity and number of offenses.
