LEONARDTOWN, Md. — After nearly two decades in a steady but unfulfilling career, one Southern Maryland woman went from a traditional 9-to-5 to building a six-figure freelance business from her dining room table. Today, she’s turning that experience into opportunity for others — helping women and business owners take their own next step toward flexibility, growth and something new.

Now, through her Leonardtown-based business 36 Virtual, Felicia Bowling is bringing that mission to life with a fresh lineup of June workshops — plus a giveaway featuring a new HP Stream 14 laptop, accessories and a free workshop seat.

From “What Else Is Out There?” To Building Something Bigger

At her kitchen table after long workdays, Bowling started searching for a different future.

After nearly two decades working in insurance, she realized she could no longer ignore the feeling that something needed to change.

Without a college degree and unsure what came next, she started researching online.

That leap eventually became 36 Virtual — named after the age she was when she finally took the chance.

“The name came from the fact that I was 36 when I started. I thought I’d change it eventually, but it became a reminder of the step that changed everything.”

What started at her dining room table grew into a business supporting clients across the country — and showed her that you do not need a perfect plan to start.

Built From Real Experience

Bowling said the workshops grew naturally out of years of helping business owners find systems that worked and create more space to grow.

Some needed structure. Others simply needed support.

Those experiences now shape how she teaches.

“I don’t want other women to have to figure it out alone the way I did.”

Rather than presentations, the workshops are designed to be hands-on — helping participants leave with progress already underway instead of just notes and ideas.

Sessions are designed to move beyond inspiration and into action — whether that means creating an Upwork profile, identifying freelance opportunities, building a delegation plan or preparing to hire support for the first time.

The goal, Bowling said, is simple: leave with real progress, not just ideas.

Bowling has often said freelancing can be one of the lowest-cost businesses to start — but recognizes that access to a reliable computer can still stand in the way.

To help remove that barrier, 36 Virtual is giving away a new HP Stream 14 laptop in Willow Green, an accessories kit and a free seat to Freelancing 101 to one Southern Maryland woman.

Beyond Workshops

While workshops are becoming a growing part of 36 Virtual, Bowling continues supporting local business owners through website design and hosting services. Businesses curious what a refreshed online presence could look like can request a free website mockup — with no commitment required.
