LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

At approximately 2:29 p.m., patrol deputies responded to the area of the Crossroads Apartments in the 21000 block of Great Mills Road in Lexington Park for a reported crash. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a two-vehicle collision involving a 2015 Nissan Armada and a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit was called to investigate. A preliminary investigation determined that both vehicles were traveling in lane two of Great Mills Road toward Westbury Boulevard when the Nissan, driven by Zykera Sharnae Shubrooks-Nunley, 20, of Lexington Park, struck the rear of the Chevrolet, operated by Kathy Mae Davis, 59, of Lexington Park. The impact forced the Chevrolet into a telephone pole, causing it to overturn and eject the driver.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. Shubrooks-Nunley was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Investigators believe that speed and driver error were contributing factors in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is asked to contact Corporal Jason Smith at 301-475-4200, ext. 2328.

  1. It’s definitely speed related. Not enough people getting tickets for their horrid driving.

  2. How fast was the 20 year old going that the impact forced the chevy to flip and throw the lady from the car? It’s Great Mills road for god’s sake, top speed is like 4.

  3. Kathy Mae Davis…I knew this woman for 33 years. She was a mother ,a sister, a niece, a mother-in-law, a grandmother ,a great grandmother , a babysitter, a great friend, a caregiver, a room mate, a beautiful black woman, a god fearing woman. I will miss her laughter, her kindness, her hugs , her smiles, her love and mostly i will miss miss her presence in my life. I LOVE YOU KATHY (Big Head:0) Until we meet again your Brother in Jesus Chris +++

  4. It’s been said that the driver of the Nissan was speeding excess of 70mph when the impact occurred. That driver should be prosecuted for at least 2nd degree murder.

  5. Sherrif Hall and Lt Rossignol it’s time to get serious about traffic control. If you don’t have enough Deputies or Troopers to effectively stop speeding/road rage drivers, get some help. I see speeding/road rage/reckless driving every time I go out. Speed cameras and stoplight cameras are effective. It’s not the fault of the road cops either. They are actively enforcing the law when they see violations. The problem is they are outnumbered. Write the ticket and let MVA & the insurance companies do the dirty work.
