
UPDATE – Fatal Mechanicsville Crash Victim Identified; Investigation Continues
MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – A 59-year-old woman was killed Thursday, April 24, 2025, in a two-vehicle crash in St. Mary’s County, according to Maryland State Police.
Police and emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Route 235 (Three Notch Road) and Mt. Zion Church Road at approximately 5:58 p.m. following reports of a serious collision involving a GMC Canyon and a GMC Envoy.
Preliminary findings indicate the GMC Canyon was attempting to turn left from southbound Rt. 235 onto Mt. Zion Church Road when it failed to yield to a northbound GMC Envoy. The Envoy struck the passenger side of the Canyon.
The driver of the Envoy, a 59-year-old woman whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Canyon, a 92-year-old man and a 90-year-old woman, were airlifted to MedStar Washington Hospital Center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command.
Personnel from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted at the scene. Traffic control efforts remained in place for approximately three hours.
The Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack continues to investigate the incident.

This is so sad. Once you hit a certain age, you should have to take an annual test to ensure you are still capable of driving safely.
Or at least have a doctor’s note to renew your license
Imagine living to 90-92, developing wisdom, learning from many mistakes but mostly whole and helpful. Then killing someone trying to save a few seconds making a dangerous turn… Prayers everywhere for this one.
