CALIFORNIA, Md. – Southern Maryland residents should expect a slick Friday morning as light accumulating snow moves into the region, according to the National Weather Service office in Baltimore/Washington.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, with forecasters calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow across parts of Southern Maryland and northern Virginia. Temperatures in the 20s are expected to allow snow to stick quickly to untreated roads, sidewalks, and elevated surfaces.

The weather service warns the timing of the snowfall will likely impact the Friday morning commute, creating slippery roads and reduced visibility. Road conditions could remain hazardous into the afternoon.

Forecasters say light snow will overspread the area early Friday morning, with narrow bands potentially producing higher localized totals. As the system exits, a brief period of freezing drizzle may follow Friday evening, potentially adding a light glaze of ice to untreated surfaces.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow additional stopping distance, and use caution during the morning and evening travel periods.
