
Michael Harold Cox, 76, of Edinburg, Virginia, passed away on March 24, 2026, with his loving family by his side
He was born on November 23, 1949, in Missouri, to the late Herbert Cox and Barbara Lee (nee: Jones) Cox. Michael lived a life full of service, dedication, and love for family and community.
Michael honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marines, completing two tours in Vietnam. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a welder with the federal government, demonstrating the same dedication and work ethic that defined his life.
He was a devoted husband, first to Dorothy Ann Cox, who preceded him in death, and later to Phyllis Jean Cox, his loving wife and companion. Michael was a proud father to Teresa M. Cox, Darlene T. Young, Anne M. Simms, Karen D. Ridgell (Mike), Richard D. Thompson, Mark J. Thompson, and Joanie Smith. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, especially the apple of his eye Leah, as well as his brother Dewayne Cox. Michaelโs family was central to his life, and he cherished the time spent with children, and grandchildren.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Barbara, his first wife Dorothy, his siblings, Sandra, Linda, James, Robert, Ronald, and David; as well as two of his grandchildren, Roy Brown โJuniorโ and Paula Ridgell, and one great grandchild, Jack Scrivener.
Michael was a member of the Southern Baptist faith and was known for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, and a variety of hands-on activities that earned him the reputation of a โjack of all trades.โ His neighbors and friends will remember him for his kindness, sense of humor, and willingness to lend a hand.
Family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Graveside Service will follow at 12:30pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, 22375 Three Notch Road Lexington Park, MD 20653.
Michaelโs legacy is one of service, family, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
