WASHINGTON — An Upper Marlboro man was sentenced Wednesday to more than 16 years in federal prison for kidnapping his former girlfriend during a violent 2023 attack that included choking and sexual assault.
Brandon Tyriq White, 31, was sentenced Aug. 26, 2026, in U.S. District Court to 198 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta also ordered White to register as a sex offender. Federal prosecutors had sought a 210-month prison sentence.
White pleaded guilty Feb. 18, 2025, to kidnapping.
“Brandon White’s victim fought to escape her attacker twice, and twice White caught her, bound her, and terrorized her,” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro said. “Domestic violence will not be tolerated. White is now a convicted felon and will spend more than 16 years in federal prison.”
Court documents state White had been in a romantic relationship with the woman and lived with her during October and November 2023.
The woman left White in late November without telling him and later ended the relationship. Some of her belongings remained at White’s home.
The following month, the woman arranged to meet White at a restaurant in Prince George’s County to recover her belongings.
While at the restaurant, she stepped away from the table to take a phone call. When she returned, the food was gone, the bill had been paid and White had left.
As she walked through the parking lot, White approached her in his vehicle. The two argued about the phone call before the confrontation escalated.
Prosecutors said White forced the woman into the back of his vehicle against her will. When she tried to escape, he restrained her with zip ties before driving from Maryland to a residence in Southeast Washington.
After arriving in D.C., the woman tried to run away while calling for help. White caught her on the front steps of the residence and choked her before releasing her after she promised not to scream or run.
White then took her to a second-floor bedroom, placed a firearm on a bedside table and sexually assaulted her, court documents state.
The woman later convinced White to drive her back to Maryland.
During the trip, they stopped at a convenience store, where she again attempted to escape. Surveillance footage captured White trying to force her back into his vehicle.
She managed to break free and run, but White caught her, beat her and broke one of her front teeth.
The woman ultimately escaped and was later treated at a local hospital.
Police arrested White on Dec. 23, 2023, in Charles County.
Authorities recovered a Glock semi-automatic pistol from the hotel where he was staying. The firearm was registered to White in Maryland, but prosecutors stated he did not have a valid license or registration to carry it in the District of Columbia.
The FBI Washington Field Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Janani Iyengary prosecuted it.
