
HUGHESVILLE, Md. — Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a vehicle fire in Hughesville Saturday afternoon, with one person taken into police custody after reportedly trying to flee the scene.
The crash was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2026, in the area of Prince Frederick Road and Brookleigh Woods Lane.
Initial reports indicated two vehicles were involved and that one of them caught fire following the collision.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire, which was reported in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles.
Prince Frederick Road was shut down in both directions while emergency crews worked at the scene.
One person associated with the vehicle that caught fire reportedly attempted to leave the scene and was later taken into police custody. That person was not injured.
EMS evaluated an adult and a child at the scene. A 32-year-old man was later transported by ambulance to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
The condition of the child was not immediately available.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
