Port Tobacco, MD – A spokeswoman with the Maryland Natural Resources Police has releaseed the identity of the swimmer who drowned while swimming at Chapel Point State Park Tuesday, Aug. 2.

According to NRP spokeswoman Candy Thomson, authorities have identified the victim as Robert Earl Claggett Jr., 27 of Indian Head.


Port Tobacco, MD— At approximately 4:30 p.m., the Charles County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an individual who reported a fellow swimmer missing in the water.ย 

Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Charles County Fire/Rescue Dive Team, and Maryland Natural Resourcesย Police were dispatched to Chapel Point State Park in the area of Port Tobacco for a water rescue.ย 

At 5:30 p.m., a body was recovered in the water. The body was identified as a 27-year-old male.ย 

According to Candy Thomson, who is the MDNRP spokesperson, “two subjects were swimming together at Chapel Point State Park, one of the swimmer’s went to the shore. When the swimmer awoke the other swimmer was missing, authorities were contacted immediately.”ย
