Thursday night, August 16, the Calvert Museum hosted the legendary classic rock band BOSTON with the local favorite โ€œSam Growโ€ the opening at their PNC Waterside Pavilion.

BOSTON entered the public consciousness with the release of their first album โ€œBOSTONโ€ in August 1976. The debut album sold over 17 million copies and ranks as the best-selling debut album in U.S. history with such hits as โ€œMore than a feeling, Peace of Mindโ€ and my personal favorite โ€œForeplay/Long time.โ€

With MIT Masters graduate Tom Scholz, guiding the music and direction of the band and playing lead and rhythm guitar, BOSTON produced four more albums โ€“ โ€œDonโ€™t Look Backโ€, โ€œThird Stageโ€, โ€œWalk Onโ€ and โ€œCorporate America.โ€ย

Bostonโ€™s distinctive music can be attributed to Scholzโ€™s use of complex, multi-tracked electric and acoustic guitar harmonies and the extended vocal ranges of the original lead singer, the late Brad Delp.

Today, Tom Scholz is guiding the music of Boston.ย  A new BOSTON album is in the works.

Distinguished for their ability to perform live with no pre-recorded materials, In addition to Tom Scholz, who plays guitar and keyboards, the line up for the concert included Gary Pihl, lead guitar; Tommy DeCarlo, vocals, percussion, keyboards; David Victor, vocals, guitar; Tracy Ferrie, bass guitar and Curly Smith, drums.

Thursday was a great walk down memory lane for me where the only thing missing was the palm trees and surf of Hawaii where I grew up.

The Calvert Marine Museum will host rocker โ€œCheap Trickโ€ and โ€œBlondieโ€ Sunday September 30 at 7:30 p.m. The tickets for this concert went on sale to the public August 7th.
