After 26 years of service in the Maryland State Police (MSP), the last few as commander of the Prince Frederick Barrack, Calvert County resident Randolph โ€œRandyโ€ Stephens has moved on to his next challenge. Stephens retired from the MSP earlier this summer, trading in his lieutenantโ€™s bars and uniform for civilian clothes. He is now a safety advocate at Calvert High School.

The Calvert County Commissioners honored Stephens Tuesday, Aug. 27, presenting him with a proclamation. In addition to his oversight of the day-to-day operations at the local barrack, Stephens was also active within the Calvert community.

โ€œHe has been very involved through the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse,โ€ said Commissioner Susan Shaw [R], who noted Stephens has also served as a youth league sports coach. Shaw said โ€œyoung people have benefittedโ€ from Stephensโ€™ mentorship.

A fellow trooper, Captain Michael Spalding, said he had known Stephens since 1987 when he [Stephens] first came out of the MSP academy and praised his colleagueโ€™s professionalism. Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans also commended Stephens for maintaining the good working relationship the two law enforcement agencies enjoy.

Stephens thanked the county commissioners for their recognition and the great relationship with the BOCC. He also expressed gratitude to his familyโ€”wife Julie and children Bradley and Katie.
