A geographical information systems (GIS) mapping technician who works within Calvertโ€™s Department of Planning and Zoning received a nod for recognition from Department of Economic Development officials. During their Dec. 20 meeting, the Calvert County Commissioners saluted Harry โ€œRayโ€ Alvey as county governmentโ€™s Employee of the Month for November.

โ€œIn recent months we have relied on Rayโ€™s assistance to print numerous oversized maps and posters used to promote economic/tourism activities and events,โ€ the nomination form submitted by Department of Economic Development officials stated. โ€œOften unforeseen situations arise where Ray is given short notice to produce these printouts, yet he consistently goes out of his way to cheerfully address our needs in an extremely efficient and professional manner.โ€

Mark Willis of the Calvert County Government Employee Recognition Committee called Alveyโ€™s actions โ€œgood customer service inside county government.โ€

Department of Economic Development officials stated the GIS data Alvey provides โ€œis a great enhancement to Calvert Countyโ€™s marketing and outreach programs, and activities.โ€

Department of Planning and Zoning Director Chuck Johnston reported Alveyย had an idea forย doing a video to help applicants through the county governmentโ€™s permit process. Mark Volland of the Department of Economic Development is currently coordinating a “how to” video to help simplify the permit process for the public. The project is being done in cooperation with the Department of Planning and Zoning. The commissioners would review such a video priorย to itsย posting on the county government web site.ย

Alvey thanked the Department of Economic Development โ€œfor nominating me.โ€
