ย As the College of Southern Maryland begins its fall semester, 30 incoming freshmen and 15 returning sophomores from Charles County have been added to the rolls of students who have benefited from the generosity and support of the Greater Waldorf Jaycees since 2000.

In the past 11 years, the Jaycees have funded nearly 200 scholarships through the CSM Foundation.

โ€œThe growth of the college has been outstanding, and with the current economy, we are seeing impressive enrollments,โ€ said CSM President Dr. Brad Gottfried. โ€œThis is why the partnership with the Greater Waldorf Jaycees is so important to CSM.โ€

This year, according to Gottfried, the college had a significant increase in applications for the Jaycees scholarships. At the scholarship awards ceremony, Gottfried told students that he recognized that many have stayed focused despite various challenges and obstacles.

โ€œAs the president of the College of Southern Maryland, I must say that meeting our talented students, who are our future leaders, teachers, engineers and scientists, is one of the favorite parts of my job. It also gives me a chance to thank the families, friends and career counselors that have been their support system,โ€ said Gottfried. ย โ€œWe are pleased to work with the Jaycees to assist students in realizing their academic goals and believe that this investment will benefit not only the individual students but also their families and our entire community.โ€
