Amadeo Zazueta hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the top of the 9th to cap off a four-run rally and give the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs a 7-5 victory over the York Revolution. The win marks the fifth time this season that the Blue Crabs have overturned a deficit and turned it into a win.
Southern Maryland (8-7) entered the 9th inning trailing 5-3 with reliever Michael Wuertz on the mound. With two outs and two runners on, Jermaine Mitchell doubled home a run to bring the Crabs within one. The Blue Crabs then tied the game at 5-5 when Jared McDonald reached on Brandon Chaves’ fielding error. That set the stage for Amadeo Zazueta’s two-run single to right field to give Southern Maryland their first lead of the game.
Sean Toler (1-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen while Wuertz (0-2) was hung with the loss for York. Jim Ed Warden earned his fourth save of the season and is now one shy of tying the all-time record in the Atlantic League.
Each team was able to put up a crooked number in the 1st inning. Jose Julio-Ruiz gave the Blue Crabs the lead in the top half with an RBI single that scored McDonald. York responded with three runs in the home half highlighted by RBI singles by Chad Tracy and Johan Limonta.
Limonta was at it again in the 3rd inning when he hit a solo home run, his second of the season, to increase the Revolution’s lead to 4-1.
Jake Opitz’s second home run of the year brought Southern Maryland back within a run in the 4th at 4-3. Opitz has hits in eight of his last nine games.
Tracy picked up in second RBI of the game in the 5th. With one out, Tracy doubled home Wilson Valdez for a two-run lead at 5-3.
