A fire that damaged a vacant house on Friendship School Road in Oakville is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. State officials report the blaze occurred Tuesday, April 16 at approximately 9:49 p.m. No injuries were reported. Thirty firefighters from five St. Mary’s County volunteer companies—Hollywood, Mechanicsville, Leonardtown, Bay District and Seventh District—were dispatched to the blaze, which they brought under control in five minutes.
According to Dfm. John Nelson, the fire originated in an exterior crawl space. Damage to the unoccupied one-story dwelling is estimated at $20,000.
Nelson is asking that anyone who may have information that would aid in the investigation to call the Maryland Fire Marshal’s Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6833.
