William J. Kolton

Lexington Park, MD— On Sept.4, Maryland State Police Trooper Opirhory responded to the AMC Loews located on FDR Boulevard in Lexington Park for a reported domestic assault.ย 

Opirhory made contact with an employee who advised the victim was seated insideย the theater lobby and the suspect was seated on the curb on the right side of the building.ย 

Whileย Opirhory was talking to the employeeย Opirhory noticed the suspect attempted to walk away.ย The trooper ordered the suspect–identified asย William J. Kolton, 51 of Piney Point–to remain. Kolton complied with the trooper’s order.

The victim advised Kolton waited outside until the movie started. Kolton was seated on the curb and the victim was standing up. The victim advised Kolton had a “bad day at work and became angry,” charging documentsย indicated.ย 

Kolton started to act aggressively and began to yell. The victim then threaten to call the police, At that time Kolton stood up from the curb, and smacked the phone out of her hand, and shoved her (victim) to the ground.ย 

Opirhory approached a witness, who advised he was walking near the movieย theater parking lot from a nearby park. He noticed the couple yelling at each other.ย 

Opirhory met with Kolton who advised, “the woman hit me for no reason, we were just waiting for the movie,” according to charging documents. The victim sustainedย an open head wound to the head and cut on her right index finger.ย 

Kolton was arrested and transportedย to the St. Mary’s County Detentionย Center, where he was charged with second-degree assault . Whileย Opirhory was transportingย Kolton to the detention center, Kolton stated he shoved the victim on the ground to defend himself.ย 

Kolton at this time does not have a scheduled court appearance. Kolton faces a maximum jail sentence 10 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.ย
