DUNKIRK, Md. — A speeding stop in Calvert County led to drug charges after a K9 alert uncovered suspected crack cocaine and paraphernalia inside a vehicle, according to court documents.
Christopher Bowen Goldsborough, 52, of Deale, is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia following the April 10, 2026 incident.
According to the statement of probable cause, a Maryland State Trooper observed a vehicle traveling 49 mph in a 30 mph zone along Brickhouse Road near Maplewood Drive in Dunkirk. A traffic stop was initiated, and Goldsborough was identified as the driver.
During the stop, troopers noted multiple indicators of possible criminal activity and requested a K9 unit. The K9 conducted a scan of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled dangerous substances.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered multiple items, including a glass smoking device with suspected crack cocaine residue, a paper wrap containing burnt copper wire, and a plastic container with suspected crack cocaine residue. Authorities also located a baggie containing approximately 2.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine.
Goldsborough was taken into custody and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing.
Court records show he was later released on his own recognizance.
A trial is set for May 21, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
Under Maryland law, possession of a controlled dangerous substance carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000, while possession of drug paraphernalia carries a maximum penalty of up to a $500 fine.
