LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Shepherd’s Old Field Market (SOF) is just a short walk or drive away from downtown Leonardtown and has long been a favorite place to shop for locals looking for handcrafted, unique items.

The BayNet got to spend a morning at the market at 22725 Duke St. in Leonardtown. SOF houses over 90 locally owned shops, services and artisan vendors. The space also regularly plays host to fun events like Oktoberfest and other fun festivals, plus karaoke and live music.

The 9,000-square-foot building is formerly the Leonardtown Building Supply. The building was vacant for years until SOF opened in 2018. The market sought to maintain the historic charm of the building. This sense of history creates a fun, vibrant shopping experience that feels true to Southern Maryland.

Just keep an eye on your kids — if you don’t, apparently they’ll be used as crab bait.

If you’re ready to shop, you won’t be disappointed. We love seeing all the vendors and how diverse all the offerings were. Botanic is located right next door to SOF Market. In fact, the shop started there years ago before moving into its own space. Botanic offers coffee, baked treats, salads and sandwiches in a beautiful plant-themed setting. Botanic also has a bar, but make sure you check the hours.
