On Friday, April 17, the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squadย was alerted to two school buses involved in an auto accident with another vehicle in the south bound lanes just north of the hospital.ย ย  Anytime there is a school bus involved, additional fire and rescue units are also dispatched until the situation is known by first arriving unit.

It was at once that the officer in charge called for additional ambulances.

The story at this time, but is still being investigated by police, is that bus # 72 ran into the rear of bus # 83 and then bus # 72 ran into the passenger vehicle.

There were reports of at least 20 patients being transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital and another 40 or so were transported by bus back to their school where they could meet with their parents.

Traffic was backed up for about 5 miles on the south bound side as police and state highway personnel blocked the fast lane of the south bound side to allow the north bound traffic to use.

There are unconfirmed reports that up to 20 were transported to Calvert Memorial. More when the official press release is issued.
