breast cancer awareness event

Breast Cancer Awareness Event Oct. 23 at Elements

The community is invited to a โ€œBreast Cancer Awarenessโ€ social event hosted by Aceโ€™s Angelโ€™s on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. at Elements Restaurant (formerly Tides) Lexington Park.

St. Maryโ€™s County natives, Karen Thomas and Lisa McManus started Aceโ€™s Angels (mostly African American, but not exclusive) a few years ago with a few individuals in honor of their mother, Annie โ€œAceโ€ Thomas. Ms. Thomas transitioned in 1997, at the age of 50 from breast cancer. Now, the group has over 200 active members who are leading the way in the national fight for cancer awareness.

โ€˜Rotten to the Core Kids Spaโ€™ business owner Karen Thomas explained, โ€œIn response to the calls I have received, asking me how to describe this unique event to your family and friendโ€ฆ let people know that Aceโ€™s Angels have been working behind the scenes in the local community since 2009. Through charitable donations and sponsors we has been able to provide financial assistance to numerous families who have been touched by this illness.โ€

This particularly special event will help bring together breast cancer fighters, survivors and supporters providing an opportunity for us to come together as a community and uplift one another. These ‘Cancer Hero’s” have been the mothers, aunts, grandmothers, girlfriends, teachers, shop keepers, neighbors, business people, civil servants, co-workers, men and women, who have contributed so much to our communities.

This event will give the community a chance to recognize their bravery and strength, as well as, support, encourage and uplift each other! Each one love one.

Cancer has touched many lives – Hope to see everyone there. For more information contact Karen Thomas and be reached at 240-461-1121 or Lisa McManus at 240-298-1682.
