UPDATE: The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office posted a Nixle alert following the collision: “The The Crossover at Rt. 5 and Golden Beach Rd will be closed for approximately 2 weeks.”

UPDATE: The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department is advising that people should expect major traffic delays from the crash.

CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. – We are receiving reports of an accident this evening that is sending one person to a nearby trauma center.

At approximately 8:46 p.m. on February 10, first responders were called to the scene in the 30000 block of Three Notch Road, in the area of Golden Beach Road, for reports that a single vehicle had gone off the roadway.

The caller had advised that the vehicle had struck a pole or sign while leaving the road.

Upon arrival, crews made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as 50-year-old female patient. The traffic lights at the scene of the crash had been taken out as a result of the crash, and police reported soon after that there were potentially wires down in the area.

EMS on the scene advised that the patient would be in need of a flyout from the Maryland State Police Aviation to a nearby trauma center.

A landing zone for a helicopter was set at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, and the aircraft would be coming from Joint Base Andrews. Estimated arrival time for the helicopter was approximately 18 minutes from the time it was dispatched.

The area is still experiencing traffic delays due to the damage caused by the crash. Avoid the scene if possible.

This is a developing story. We will continue to provide additional details as they are made available.

  1. This is pure horse chit!!!!! There is NO REASON why that intersection should be closed down for 2 weeks!!!! That traffic pole and light system can be fixed in one evening!

  2. Rode past this last night on my way home from.. crazy!
Came thru it today without any real delays.. just closed off to one lane while they work the pole.

  3. “Well let’s see you fix it in one evening lol. Rode past this last night on my way home from.. crazy! Came thru it today without any real delays..”
OK then? It’s done! How’s that? I went and got it done @ 4AM. 2 days, not 2 weeks. This is why we can’t believe much of anything the media posts.
