Illustrator Joyce Judd (l) and writer Ellytnne Brice Davis signed their Halloween book at Fenwick Street Used Books in Leonardftown.

Leonardtown, MD — Three St. Maryโ€™s County residents have collaborated on a book that would be a perfect gift for children during the Halloween season. The book called โ€œHalloween Fright on a Chesapeake Nightโ€: tells the story of three black cats who live on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and relates their trick or treating adventures.

The book is a collaboration of writer Ellynne Brice Davis, illustrator Joyce Judd and editor Myra Raspa. All are retired St. Maryโ€™s County Public Schoolsโ€™ teachers.

โ€œHalloween Fright on a Chesapeake Nightโ€ came out just before Halloween two years ago. This year you have plenty of opportunities to purchase the book. For instance Brice-Davis and Judd were at Fenwick Street Used Books in Leonardtown on Oct. 2 to sign their book. They will be at other venues throughout the month.

Juddโ€™s illustrations, Davisโ€™ age appropriate text and Raspaโ€™s tight editing blend to make this book a delight for children. This writer especially liked one of the opening panels showing the cats playing along the shoreline.

In another, during their trick or treating escapades, they encounter a bat which flies out the door and startles them.

The book also includes a back-page song with the same name as the book title which is expected to be played in the key of e (eeek!) minor.
