Alan Donald Lane, “MacGyver”, 82, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on March 6, 2024 at his home. Born on June 11, 1941 in Geneva, IL, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Rochester Lane and the late John Horace Steele Lane. Alan was the loving husband of Glenda J. Lane, Whom he met in the summer of 1971 in Charleston, SC, and whom he married on August 5, 1973 in Charleston, SC. He is survived by his sons, Kevin D. Lane of Virginia Beach, VA and John E. Lane of Mechanicsville, MD, his brother, Robert R. Lane, of Mission Viejo, CA, two grandchildren, Madison B. Lane and Keagan A. Lane, and one great-grandchild on the way. In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his brother, John H.S. Lane II.

Alan graduated from Lawrence High School in 1960. Alan served in the United States Navy for 30 years, from July 6, 1962 to August 1, 1992. During this time, he earned the rank Torpedoman’s Mate Master CPO. He received the Comsublant Loc, Good Conduct Award (7), Meritorious Unit Commendation (3), Navy Achievement Medal (2), Battle “E” Ribbon Navy Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Commendation, Navy Overseas Ribbon (3), and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (1). Retiring as a Command Master Chief.

He was a Logistics Engineer for Precise Systems for over five years.
He enjoyed new adventures, such as camping through Europe in July 1978, where he visited Spain- Zaracoza and Barcelona, France- Montpellier and Paris, Monaco, Italy- Venice, Austria, Switzerland, Germany- Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Netherlands- Amsterdam.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Chaplain Chris Whetlor officiating. Interment will be private.
