It was a packed house Saturday night as the Alexandria Harmonizers put on a powerful performance at Great Mills High School: Gershwin in Four Parts!

Presented by the Womanโ€™s Club of St. Maryโ€™s (GFWC), the concert wrapped up the Clubโ€™s 2005 Performing Arts Series.

The Harmonizers are an internationally recognized, award-winning, barbershop a-cappella group, consisting of 60 to 90 members. The groupโ€™s most recent award came during the Barbershop Harmony Societyโ€™s International Convention, July 5 to 11, 2005. The Harmonizers won their 15th medal on the international competition stage: a Bronze 4th place.

The Harmonizers have performed over the years at Carnegie Hall NYC, Wolf Trap Vienna VA, several Kennedy Center Honors DC, Cow Palace in San Francisco, Super Dome in New Orleans, Disneyland CA, and Saddle Dome Calgary Canada. Theyย performed the National Anthem for the Baltimore Orioles Baltimore MD, Washington Redskins DC (RFK), and DC United DC.

The next local show for the group will be during the Calvert County Performing Arts Series, on March 18th, 2006. Donโ€™t miss it.

โ€œWeโ€™re excited for you for you have a wonderful local success story in this local GFWC (General Federation of Womenโ€™s Clubs). These marvelous ladies have done so very much for the surrounding communities by the Bay in recent years and the St. Maryโ€™s County Performing Arts Series Council is one of their major fund raisers,โ€ said Bruce Guy Lauther, a member and promoter for the Harmonizers.

The Womanโ€™s Club of St. Maryโ€™s is very active in the community, responsible for the County Clean-Up Campaign, supporting the Development Center and other activities. The group also purchased pediatric resuscitation kits for all county rescue squads.
