At 9:10 p.m. April 28 at 9:10 p.m., Officer A. Schwab of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a Ford Tempo in the 12600 block of Crain Highway in Newburg, but when the driver stopped he exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officer Schwab apprehended the driver and identified him Russell James Holton, Jr., 42 of Newburg.
Officers searched Holton’s vehicle and discovered 19 individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $380.
Holton was charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and driving while suspended. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
A 17 year-old La Plata boy was also in the vehicle and will be charged at a later date.
