La Plata, MD — The 257th Army Band will be performing Friday, August 2 at 7 p.m. in La Plata on the lawn at La Plata Town Hall at 305 Queen Anne Street.
“The Band of the Nation’s Capital” is a unit of the District of Columbia Army National Guard.
The band boasts a proud lineage going back to the legendary Corcoran Cadets, the DC militia that inspired John Philip Sousa to compose his march of the same name.
The band has performed at Inauguration of President Obama and appeared in Greece, Jamaica, and at the Great American Brass Band Festival. The band had also toured throughout New England, Texas and the Mid-Atlantic.
Military concerts are usually about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes due to their regulations.
Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for sitting. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol, please.
Concessions are available from the Town’s food trailer located in the back of the parking lot. An ice cream truck is also stationed there for your enjoyment.
A play area for children, the Kids’ Zone, allows parents to enjoy the concert while keeping an eye on the little ones. Dogs and other pets should be be kept off of Town Hall grounds during Events.
