Hospital Security Guard Bitten, Correctional Deputy Spit On; Waldorf Man Faces Two Assault Cases

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing two separate second-degree assault charges after Calvert County Sheriff’s Office investigators alleged he had assaulted both a hospital security guard and a Calvert County correctional deputy while receiving treatment at CalvertHealth Medical Center, according to court documents.

Lacoy Rafiel Michael Toms, 45, of Waldorf, was charged in two separate cases filed in the District Court for Calvert County through applications for statements of charges. Both charges stem from separate incidents that allegedly occurred July 17, 2026, at CalvertHealth Medical Center in Prince Frederick.

According to one application for statements of charges, a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded at approximately 10:51 a.m. July 17 to CalvertHealth Medical Center following a reported assault involving hospital security personnel.

A hospital security guard told investigators he responded to Room 318 after staff requested assistance with Toms, who was an inmate under guard by Calvert County Detention Center correctional officers. According to the application, correctional officers were attempting to place a restraint on Toms’ left ankle after he became combative and refused repeated commands to surrender his right hand.

Charging documents state the security guard repeatedly asked Toms to give his hand to the correctional deputy. Investigators allege Toms responded with profanity and refused multiple commands while keeping his right arm across his abdomen to prevent officers from applying the restraint.

According to court records, the security guard attempted to move Toms’ arm toward the deputy when a struggle ensued. Investigators allege Toms then bit the security guard on his left index finger, refusing to release his grip despite repeated commands and attempts to break his bite. The security guard reportedly sustained injuries described in charging documents as broken skin and a deep compression wound that required treatment in the emergency department and X-rays before returning to work with his finger bandaged.

Charging documents further allege Toms made what investigators described as a threat toward the security guard immediately after releasing his finger, yelling, “I’m gonna kill you. When I see you again, I’m gonna kill you.” Investigators photographed the injury, and the security guard provided a written statement regarding the incident.

A second application for statements of charges alleges Toms assaulted a Calvert County Detention Center correctional deputy less than four hours later while the deputy was assigned to hospital security detail.

According to court documents, the correctional deputy was sitting in Toms’ hospital room when Toms suddenly sat up in bed and spit at him. Investigators allege the spit struck the deputy on the left side of his face, uniform and protective vest. He reportedly was unsure whether any saliva entered his eye and sought medical treatment following the incident.

The charging documents also state investigators were advised Toms was reportedly becoming increasingly aggressive toward hospital staff.

Toms is scheduled to appear for preliminary inquiries in Calvert County District Court. One hearing is scheduled for Aug. 31, 2026, and the second for Sept. 14, 2026.
