Hughesville, MD – The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) will hold a “town hall” meeting to discuss Meat Processing in Southern Maryland on March 22, 2018 in Hughesville.
All regional livestock/meat producers of beef, lamb, pork, goat and poultry are encouraged to participate in this important opportunity to discuss their needs for mitigating transportation costs, lessening turnaround time and giving quality assurance and traceability to their products.
The meeting agenda includes open conversation with SMADC and Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland representatives, members of the Southern Maryland Meats Steering Committee and program Livestock and Marketing Specialist. Topics and presentations will focus on slaughter facility options, meat processing and value added programs, supplemented with actual case studies of successful models operating in other areas of the country that could be adapted to regional specifications and requirements.
The Town Hall Meeting will be held on Thursday March 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the SMECO Auditorium located at 15035 Burnt Store Road, Hughesville, MD 20637. Southern Maryland livestock producers and interested members of the general public are invited to attend and contribute to the discussion.
