The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, with the assistance of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, is investigating two fires that occurred over the weekend at Flag Ponds State Park in Lusby. According to Dfm. Melissa Bean, park employees discovered the damage Tuesday, Oct. 30 shortly before 9 a.m. Beanโ€™s investigation determined the blazes had been deliberately set.ย โ€œUnknown suspect(s) intentionally set fire to two separate out-buildings sometime over the weekendโ€ stated Bean, adding that the fires โ€œextinguished themselves.โ€

ย

The investigation determined that the fires originated in an exterior walkway of one building and the interior of the second structure.ย

ย

Damage is estimated at $30,000.

ย

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of the park or has any information is asked to contact the state fire marshalโ€™s Southern Region Office at 443-550-6834.
