LEXINGTON PARK, Md., – Nowadays the average American works over 50 hours a week. If we’re spending more time at work than at home, it should be worth the sacrifice.
Today, during a breakfast reception at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC, AVIAN was recognized by Washingtonian as one of the region’s 50 Great Places to Work.
“Whether it’s through unlimited vacation, or ice cream sandwiches this year’s 50 Great Places to Work really appreciate their employees and they show it every day,” said Sherri Dalphonse, Executive Editor, Washingtonian.
The 50 winning workplaces were chosen on the basis of such measures as: generous pay and benefits; challenging and interesting work; great work/life balance; opportunities to learn and grow; commitment to charity and community; and the recognition and respect given to employees.
“As our company continues to grow, we remain committed to our employees and keeping a “family-feel”, said Kevin Switick, president and co-owner of AVIAN LLC. “We’ve created a culture, by design, which focuses on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. We truly appreciate each person’s unique ideas, perspective and talents and do things along the way to show our gratitude.”
Some employee perks on AVIAN’s list include, welcome packages within the first week of employment; an onsite vegetable garden; fitness challenges; spot bonuses; and door prizes like GoPros, laptops, gaming systems and gift cards at the annual holiday party.
Founded in 2005, AVIAN has grown to more than 150 employees located around the Metro DC area and throughout the country.
“We’ve found that the more team building, recognition and unique employee benefits we offer, the happier our employees are at work,” Switick said. “Happy people live longer, more fulfilled lives and produce better products for their customers.”
The 50 Great Places to Work winners were chosen from a pool of nearly 200 companies and close to 10,000 employee surveys. According to Washingtonian, the final determination relied heavily on the scores given by a company’s employees.
This is the ninth time Washingtonian has chosen Great Places to Work in the Washington, DC area. The feature dates back to 1999; it is published every other year.
A complete list of all workplaces recognized in 2015 can be found in the November 2015 print publication of Washingtonian magazine and on their website, www.washingtonian.com beginning Nov. 9.
