Louise Ann Slaby, 87, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 7, 2026. Louise was born on March 23, 1939, in Bairdford, Pennsylvania to the late John and Mary Hudak. She graduated from West Deer Township High School with honors and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Slippery Rock University in 1960. Louise embodied the spirit of determination and resilience, forging her own path and earning her degree in higher education. She obtained a Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962 and began working her way towards a Doctorate.
Louise went on to teach at the elementary school level, specializing in reading. She met and married Robert Peebles Slaby in 1963, and they had four daughters. Together, they established several businesses, including Medallion Real Estate and RPS Development Corporation. Highlights of their real estate endeavors included bringing a McDonald’s to Bowie and developing the Bowie Office Park. She continued teaching, and raised four daughters, all of whom went on to obtain advanced degrees
That same spirit of resilience and determination carried her into a successful career in real estate development, investment and management after her husband’s passing in 2000. As an astute businesswoman, she managed farmsteads and real estate in Maryland and Pennsylvania until her death.
Louise had an abundance of love for her family, friends, and community. She had the ability to personally connect with everyone she met. She was joyously involved in contributing to her communities through activities and organizations including local area schools, churches and a garden club where she held various positions and received multiple awards. Louise also loved to support and attend the many school and community functions of her grandchildren. An accomplished golfer, she was the President of the Crofton Ladies Golf Association and earned the esteemed recognition of joining the Hole-In-One Club.
Above all, Louise cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She offered steady support, thoughtful guidance, a warm embrace and endless love. Her sense of humor, wisdom, intelligence, infectious personality, courageous spirit, and love will be held forever in our hearts.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Slaby, Esq.; her sister, Geraldine T. Marsh; and her brother-in-law, Thomas Marsh. She is survived by her four daughters, Jocelyn R. S. Munns, DDS (Thomas); Karen L. Slaby, Esq. (Daniel Hamm); Leslie M. Slaby, MA; and Cynthia B. Slaby, MBA; her grandchildren, Robert B. Munns (Mackenzie), LCDR Thomas J. Munns, Lauren O. Munns, Ryan D. Slaby, Natasha M. Slaby, Ella R. Hamm, and Jack T. Hamm; and her great-grandchild, Macie E. Munns.
She will be missed dearly by all those who were blessed to have known her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on September 5, 2026, at Our Lady’s Church, 41348 Medley’s Neck Road, Leonardtown, Maryland. Private Interment.
