BASEEBaslee to perform at CSM Leonardtown Campus

Mezzo-Soprano Next on Benny C. Morgan Recital Series Schedule

College of Southern Maryland faculty member Hannah Baslee will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Leonardtown Campus, the second performance in the newly created Benny C. Morgan Recital Series.

Baslee is in her second year as an adjunct professor at CSM. She has taught several sections of music appreciation, both in the classroom and online. Next semester, she will teach music fundamentals. In addition to teaching at CSM, she also works as a voice and piano teacher at Cardon Studios in Washington, D.C.

โ€œChoral singing was my first love, and I keep it in my life by participating in the D.C.-based group โ€˜The 18th Street Singers.โ€™ I also sing with a professional early music chamber choir at The Church of the Ascension and Saint Agnes in the District,โ€ she said.

Baslee said she is โ€œvery excitedโ€ to collaborate with Dr. Stephen Johnson, chair of the CSM communication, arts and humanities division, in a program of some of her all-time favorite pieces. โ€œA few honorable mentions include two arias from Bach’s โ€œMass in B-minor,โ€ Ravel’s musical setting of the influential Cervantes story โ€˜Don Quixote,โ€™ as well as pieces from my favorite musical, โ€˜Chicago,โ€™โ€ she said.

The Saturday, Nov. 19 performance will be her first at CSM. She also is scheduled to perform at 3 p.m. April 9 as part of the Ward Virts Concert Series on the CSM Prince Frederick Campus.

The Benny C. Morgan Recital Series was named in honor of a beloved teacher and musician in Southern Maryland, who passed away in Feb. 2016. Before his death, Morgan donated his prized Steinway piano to the CSM Music Department. In appreciation for the gift, the recital series was created in his honor at the Leonardtown Campus.

The first concert was Saturday, Oct. 15, and the Chamber Players performed. The concert series schedule includes the Southern Maryland Chamber Ensemble at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017 and Southern Maryland Chamber Players at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017.ย

In this inaugural 2016-17 season of the Morgan recital series, the artists will volunteer their time and talent, so admission is free. All performances are in the auditorium of Building A on the Leonardtown Campus, 22950 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown.
