Authorities in Calvert County responded to Cox Road in Chesapeake Beach March 27 at 8:24 a.m. after a man with a knife was yelling, acting erratically and trying to operate a motor vehicle.
As units responded to 3080 Cox Road, the subject, identified as Roland Pelletier, 51, the subject fled on foot through yards, out onto and across Route 260, into a private residential yard and driveway. Pelletier was still yelling and acting erratic and started throwing trash cans, dumping out trash.ย
Units established a perimeter and attempted to get the subject to calm down and comply with verbal commands to stop his behavior and get on the ground, but he refused to comply.ย As additional units responded, the subject ran down an embankment into a roadside drainage culvert.ย The subject refused to come out and after a lengthy period was subsequently extracted.
Pelletier was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for medical treatment and evaluation by EMS.ย Dfc. Cress escorted EMS and Pelletier in the ambulance while Sgt. Selkirk followed the ambulance to the hospital.
Based on observations of Pelletier, it was determined that he was under the influence of an unknown drug.ย Pelletier is known to use crack cocaine and based on investigation with family members, was suspected of being under the influence of crack cocaine.
No officers were injured and pelletier was not injured during this event.
Calvert County Sheriffโs Office deputies, Sheriff Mike Evans, Squad 4 Patrol, Beach Patrol, Animal Control and EMS Dunkirk, Company 5 responded to the incident.
The case is being handled by Dfc. R. Weems and charges are pending.ย ย ย ย
