WALDORF, Md. – A bedroom fire broke out late Sunday night, Feb. 1, at a single-story home in Waldorf, prompting a rapid response from firefighters and displacing a family of four.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 10:20 p.m. to a home on Marshall Road for a reported working fire. When firefighters arrived, flames were visible from the structure, and a 360-degree assessment confirmed fire conditions on one side of the home.
Two occupants were inside the house at the time of the fire but were able to escape safely and were outside when crews arrived. Firefighters quickly stretched a hose line to the bedroom, brought the fire under control, and conducted primary and secondary searches, which confirmed no one else remained inside.
The fire was declared out shortly before 10:40 p.m. Crews remained on scene to check for hot spots, ventilate the home, and secure utilities. Power to the structure was shut off as a precaution, and gas services were notified.
Two juveniles, ages 11 and 14, were transported to UM Charles Regional Medical Center as a precaution for medical evaluation. Their conditions were not considered life-threatening.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist two adults and two children displaced by the fire.
All personnel were accounted for, and no firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
