WALDORF, Md. — A bicyclist was seriously injured and flown to a trauma center following a vehicle collision on Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf on Saturday evening, June 1.
According to Charles County dispatch, emergency crews were deployed just before 5:25 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian or cyclist near the 1300 block of Smallwood Drive West. Upon arrival, first responders discovered an adult bicyclist with trauma to the lower body, including a broken nose and an apparent injury to the leg.
Initial reports indicate the cyclist was struck by a vehicle. Medics on scene requested immediate air transport due to the severity of the injuries. Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 2 responded to the call and landed nearby to transport the patient.
The victim was flown to Capital Region Medical Center in Largo. Two additional patients were also evaluated and transported by ground to Charles Regional Medical Center.
Multiple units responded to the scene. The roadway was temporarily impacted as crews responded and transported patients. All units cleared the scene by approximately 6:30 p.m.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by local authorities.
