The first-half Freedom Division champions will be determined on July 28th at Regency Furniture Stadium when the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs host the Lancaster Barnstormers. The winner of this game will be crowned first-half champions and clinch a berth in the Atlantic League Playoffs.
The Blue Crabs will be looking to celebrate their 10th Anniversary Season by making the playoffs for the eighth time in franchise history. The game is a make-up from a May 25th match-up that was postponed due to weather. The Blue Crabs and Barnstormers finished the first-half tied for first place in the Freedom Division, setting up the winner-take-all match-up.
“It’s important to have the tenth man on the field,” said Blue Crabs Manager John Harris about the fans. “Our team really thrives on the energy brought to us by our fans, and we need every bit of home-field advantage against a tough opponent.”
The Blue Crabs and Barnstormers have already played nine games against each other already this season. The Barnstormers currently lead the head-to-head series 5-4, but the Blue Crabs will enter this game on a three-game winning streak against their division rival.
“This is one of the most important games in Blue Crabs history,” said Blue Crabs General Manager Courtney Knichel. “We are really hoping to see the community come out and cheer on their hometown team to a victory.”
