Bridgeport, CT — The Bridgeport Bluefish scored three runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to come from behind and defeat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in thrilling fashion 7-6 at Harbor Yard.


Against Blue Crabs closer Justin Berg, Bridgeport staged a 9th inning rally and got help from the Blue Crabs defense. Sean Burroughs led off with a single and two batters later Ramon Castro reached on an error. Casper Wells followed by reaching on an error by Berg and Burroughs came into score to tie the game. After an intentional walk, Austin Gallagher delivered a walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the 9th to cap the Bluefish comeback.


Southern Maryland stormed out of the gates with four runs in the top of the 1st. Cyle Hankerd hit a two-run home run to start the scoring and C.J. Ziegler added a two-run single to double the Blue Crabs lead.


Bridgeport bounced back for three runs in the 2nd inning courtesy of an RBI single by Joe Mather and a two-run single by James Simmons.


The Blue Crabs built up their lead again in the 6th inning with two more runs. Mitchell brought in Bobby Stevens with an RBI single and Hankerd followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3.


The Blue Crabs finish their roadtrip with a three-game series against the Bridgeport Bluefish starting tomorrow afternoon at 1:00. Southern Maryland returns home to face the Somerset Patriots for their final home series of the season starting Tuesday September 16 at 7:05.
