YORK, Pa. – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (16-27) dropped the series finale against the York Revolution (23-21) 10-8, with the teams combining for 12 runs in the first four innings.

York got their offense going early, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first. Alonzo Harris led the inning off with a single, and then circled the bases on an error by the catcher during the following at-bat. A walk to Alexi Casilla was next, with Melky Mesa doubling to bring him around from first. Mesa advanced on a passed ball, allowing him to make the score 3-0 on a sacrifice fly from Jared Mitchell.

Southern Maryland would respond with a pair of their own in second, which was led off by a Jon Griffin single. Griffin would advance to second on a wild pitch, and then up to third on a groundout, allowing him to easily score on a triple from Angelys Nina. A groundout from Cory Vaughn would bring Nina across, cutting the deficit down to one run.

The Revs would get going again in the third though, putting up four more in the inning. Mitchell doubled and then went to third on a groundout, before David Wayne Russo (2-5) issued a walk to Travis Witherspoon. A double steal would allow Mitchell to score, with Witherspoon coming around on a single from Henry Castillo. Two batters later, Tyler Clark would launch a two-run homerun, pushing the Revs lead out to 7-2.

A two-run homerun from Mesa and a solo shot from Ryan Dent in the fourth would extend the lead to eight runs, before the Blue Crabs got three in the sixth. A strikeout started the frame, before Edwin Garcia singled for his second hit of the game. Two batters later Griffin would add a single, which was followed by a triple from Frank Martinez that brought home both runners. An error at third would bring home Martinez, making the score 10-5.

The offense settled down in the seventh and eighth, as the bullpens traded scoreless innings. York then brought on Dustin Richardson for the ninth inning, and Jose Gonzalez immediately doubled off the new reliever. After a strikeout and a walk to Garcia, Teodoro Martinez added another double to bring home Gonzalez. A single from Frank Martinez would score two more, cutting the deficit to two and bringing Nina to the plate as the tying run. Richardson would recover to force a fielder’s choice, escaping with the 10-8 win and the sweep for York.

The Blue Crabs return to action Tuesday, August 28th for the series opener against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. on Tuesday at Constellation Field.
