SOLOMONS, Md. — The Fourth of July fireworks celebration scheduled for this evening in Solomons has been canceled due to extreme heat and deteriorating weather conditions.

Organizers made the decision with public safety in mind as dangerous heat, thunderstorms and the potential for severe weather impacted Southern Maryland throughout the day.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to use caution if traveling, as heavy rain, lightning and strong winds continue to move through the region.

Officials also remind everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during periods of extreme heat, and drive safely if heading out this evening.

The cancellation comes as weather conditions remain unpredictable across Southern Maryland. Organizers appreciate the public’s understanding and wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July.
