Gaby Hernandez went seven strong innings as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs won for a second straight time over the Camden Riversharks and third time overall with a 6-2 victory.

Hernandez (6-9) pitched the first seven innings allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. It’s the second victory of the season for Hernandez against Camden this season. Ryan Kulik (2-6) was on the losing end surrendering four runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

Southern Maryland got off to a fast start with three runs in the top of the 1st. Bobby Stevens led off with a double and scored two batters later on Cyle Hankerd’s double. Jake Opitz added a two-run home run off Kulik, his 15th of the season, to push the lead to 3-0.

Former Blue Crab Jose Julio-Ruiz got the Riversharks on the board in the bottom of the 2nd with his 16th home run of the season to make it 3-1. Brandon Chaves got Camden within a run in the 5th with an RBI triple that scored P.J. Phillips.

Leading 4-2 in the 8th, the Crabs tacked on two insurance runs against the Riversharks bullpen. Stevens reached on an error with two outs allowing Angel Chavez to score and Jermaine Mitchell followed with an RBI triple to extend the score to 6-2.

The Blue Crabs finish their three-game series with the Camden Riversharks starting tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. Southern Maryland returns home for three games against the Bridgeport Bluefish beginning Friday September 5 at 7: 05 PM. Purchase tickets for the game by visiting or calling 301-638-9788.
