PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. โ€“ย The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation announced today the Breezy Point Beach Send-Off event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, from 3:30 p.m. until dark, is cancelled due to the ongoing and predicted inclement weather conditions.

โ€œWhile we are disappointed to cancel this event for a second time, public safety is our primary concern,โ€ said Parks & Recreation Director Shannon Nazzal. โ€œWith the current high waters and a forthcoming storm, an early decision was necessary to inform the public and provide enough lead time for all parties involved to plan and prepare for possible storm conditions.โ€

Breezy Point Beach and Campground is a favorite bay-front park featuring swimming, fishing, picnicking and seasonal and daily camping. When the weather clears, visitors are encouraged to bring the entire family for a fun-filled day at the public beach. Children will enjoy building sand castles, playing on the new playground or finding shark teeth at nearly every glance along the waterโ€™s edge. For fishing and crabbing enthusiasts, there is 200-foot fishing pier. It is the perfect getaway for day trips, a weekend away or a week-long escape. The site is open through Oct. 31.
