Broad Daylight Exhibitionism At Applebee’s: Two Adults Arrested For Alleged Indecent Exposure And Disorderly Conduct

CALIFORNIA, Md. — A report of adults allegedly having sex in the parking lot of Applebee’s in California, Maryland, prompted arrests after multiple witnesses came forward to make reports.

On Jan. 12, 2026, around 4 p.m., the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office (SMCSO) responded to the Applebee’s parking lot following reports of alleged sexual activity occurring in a parked vehicle.

According to police reports, police spoke with witnesses who alleged seeing a man and a woman naked in the backseat of a vehicle. One witness reportedly described the woman’s legs being raised while the couple allegedly engaged in sexual activity. A total of two witnesses provided statements corroborating the reported public sexual conduct.

Court documents show officers located the individuals, identified as Kaneesha Latasha Gross, 35, of Lexington Park, and James Matthew Washington, 58, of Capital Heights. Both were taken into custody and charged.

Charging documents report Kaneesha Gross was released on $2,000 bond on Jan. 12, 2026, with a trial scheduled for Feb. 23, 2026. James M. Washington was released on his own recognizance on Jan. 13, 2026, with a trial scheduled for Feb. 23, 2026.

Both face charges of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.

Under Maryland law, indecent exposure is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year of incarceration and/or a fine of up to $1,000. Disorderly conduct is also a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $500.
