Callaway, MD- A Callaway man was formally arraigned on charges of sex abuse of a minor and will stand trial in August.
Jay Thomas Martin, 60, is accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old female family member. According the charging documents, Martin is accused of assaulting the girl from 2013 through 2017. The victim told investigators Martin would take her out for ice cream and then park in an unlit parking lot and sexually assault her.
On Feb. 11 the victim said Martin again tried to assault her and she told him to stop and reported the abuse to family members.
When confronted by family members, Martin allegedly admitted to the abuse and also confessed to investigators. Martin claimed he was sick and was seeking treatment through his church and other resources.
Martin is charged with one count of sex abuse of a minor. Heโs being held in the St. Maryโs County Detention Center without bond.
Martinโs trial is scheduled for Aug. 31.

Callaway, MD – On February 21, 2017, the St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office received a report of a ten-year-old female who was being sexually abused by a family member.ย The Criminal Investigations Division in partnership with Child Protective Services continued the investigation. The suspect was identified as Jay Thomas Martin, age 60, of Callaway, Maryland.ย
On February 22, 2017, detectives arrested Martin and transported him to the St. Maryโs County Detention Center, where he is being held on a no bond status.
Martin was charged with Sex Abuse of a Minor.
