WALDORF, MD. — Emergency crews responded to a serious two-vehicle crash involving a vehicle fire Tuesday night, Sept. 1, 2026, in Waldorf.
The crash was reported at approximately 9:51 p.m. in the area of 9000 block of Berry Road (Maryland Route 228).
Initial reports indicated two vehicles were involved and that one vehicle traveled off the roadway into the woods before catching fire. Another caller reported that one vehicle struck a truck before entering the wooded area.
Emergency communications also indicated that an electrical box exploded near the crash scene, prompting warnings about possible electrical hazards.
A person was later reported walking out of the wooded area while bleeding. An off-duty federal agent who came upon the crash was with the patient before emergency crews arrived. Initial information indicated the person was believed to be the only occupant of the vehicle in the woods.
Fire and EMS crews from multiple departments responded to the scene. Later radio traffic indicated two vehicles were off the roadway and that there was no longer an apparent active vehicle fire.
At least one patient was transported to Fort Washington Medical Center. The extent of the patient’s injuries has not been released.
Radio traffic also indicated Route 228 was being shut down while crews worked at the scene.
Motorists should expect delays and use caution in the area.
