DUNKIRK, Md. – Earlier last week, Dawn Bunting, owner of the Bunting Online Auction House in Dunkirk, made a startling discovery at the bottom of a box of old miniature train accessories.
The surprise in question was an old Folgers coffee can, which contained over $60,000 in cash within a collection of bank envelopes.
According to Bunting, the box of train parts was sitting in a warehouse corner for about a month before an employee decided to take a look at it.
โHe thought there might be trains under what looked like paper stuffing. The paper stuffing was instead bank envelopes of one hundred dollar bills,โ Bunting told The BayNet.

The original owner of the box of trains was a collector of coins and currency. He had apparently died some time ago.
As for why there was such a large sum of money stored in a coffee can, Bunting said, โWe think he was a person whose parents had lived through the Great Depression and didnโt trust banks. We have no way of knowing if thatโs true, itโs just our best guess.โ
The cash was returned to the cosigner of the box train sets. Bunting plans to showcase the find in an upcoming series.

Kudos!!
COOL!
Great story, contrary to popular belief there are still good people around.
Shouldn’t the $100 bills be the older design?
You would think there would be more older bills. Something doesn’t seem quite right about this.
