PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools approved a $5.6 million project for educational program development (ed specs) and design for site updates to Calvert Elementary and Calvert Country School.
The Board of Education approved the project at the Feb. 26 meeting in a 5-0 vote, awarding the contract to Grimm Parker Architects. The contract includes “Architectural and Engineering (A/E) Professional Services for Educational Specifications/Pre-Design through Post-Construction.”
During this project, Grimm Parker will study the site and create architectural and engineering designs for the future project and will provide a recommendation on whether the site is ready to go “net-zero,” which would increase funding possibilities from the state.
Director of Procurement Sheldon Taylor and Director of School Construction Shuchita Warner did not elaborate on what exactly the updates will be for the co-located schools. However, Calvert Elementary is also on the county’s list for future capital improvement projects. A hearing will be held March 24 to review capital improvement funds.
Warner clarified that this part of the project was just the design phase and that when it’s complete they’ll seek out construction bids. She said the planned completion date for the entire project is currently December 2030.
Calvert Elementary and Calvert Country School are co-located, meaning they share a facility and both would be included in the design. Calvert Country School is a small special education school serving approximately 40-45 students.
