PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners recognized Highway Equipment Operator II Nelson Rice for dedicating 36 years of faithful and loyal service to the citizens of Calvert County and the state of Maryland. They wished him well in his retirement.

Nelson began his admirable career with the county government in July 1985, as a laborer for the Highway Maintenance Division. He was promoted to highway maintenance worker in July 1995 and again to highway laborer/operator in October 1999. Nelson was promoted to highway equipment operator II in July 2017, where he held the position to retirement.

Throughout his career, Nelson’s commendable and distinguished service has been demonstrated with a spirit of pride. Nelson is known by citizens for going above and beyond during snow storms to ensure roads and driveways were plowed and salted.

Nelson always kept a positive attitude and was willing to lend a helping hand to any of his peers. His long tenure and joyful personality were such a huge asset, he will take a piece of Highway Maintenance with him when he retires.
