WALDORF, Md. — A Hyattsville woman has been charged by criminal summons after a Charles County resident reported that several electronic devices worth more than $4,000 were taken from her home and later shipped to El Salvador, according to charging documents.
Yasmin Analy Paiz Saravia, 39, of Hyattsville, was charged with theft of $1,500 to under $25,000.
A woman reported the theft at the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Waldorf District Station on Feb. 26, 2026, according to charging documents. She told police Saravia frequently visited her residence because of Saravia’s relationship with her son.
The complainant said she had recently purchased several electronic devices, including two cellphones, an Apple Watch and an iPad, valued at $4,063.05, and kept them inside her residence.
According to the report, the complainant later discovered the items were missing and believed Saravia had taken them. The complainant told police Saravia admitted taking the devices, activating them under a new service plan and later shipping them to El Salvador.
The deputy wrote that there was no video surveillance showing Saravia taking the items from the residence. However, the complainant reported that Saravia admitted the items had been taken and shipped after being activated, according to charging documents.
The stolen items were entered into a law enforcement database as stolen property. Police said attempts to contact Saravia several times for a statement were unsuccessful.
A criminal summons was issued May 6, 2026. Saravia was not arrested.
A preliminary inquiry is set for June 22, 2026, at Charles District Court.
Under Maryland law, the listed theft charge carries up to five years of incarceration and up to $10,000 in fines if Saravia is convicted.
