PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County’s Department of Parks and Recreation (CCPR) announced the winners of the Therman Gray Memorial Scholarship Award this week.
At the Aug. 18 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting, CCPR Director Bob Branham presented the winners to the board after a careful selection process.
The two students selected are Emily Rowe, representing the First District, and Jayden Eversole, representing the Second District. Both Rowe and Eversole received a $1,000 scholarship to put toward their education or training for careers in the Parks and Recreation space.
Parks and Recreation Director Bob Branham highlighted Rowe and Eversole’s achievements in high school and dedication to the causes they love. Both students were recognized for their academic achievements, as Branham called the scholarship “a testament to their future potential.”
Rowe attended the BOCC meeting to accept her scholarship and is planning to study economics at the University of Maryland this fall, telling the commissioners she was “very excited” to start her next chapter. Eversole was unable to attend the Aug. 18 meeting.
Applicants to the scholarship must be Calvert County residents, graduating seniors in public, private or homeschool high schools, pursuing an undergraduate degree from an eligible discipline list and possessing a grade point average of 3.0 and above on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must complete the application and submit proof of residency, a copy of their most recent report card or homeschool review, a copy of an acceptance/enrollment letter to a college, university or trade school, two letters of recommendation and a two-minute video explaining why they are pursuing the field.
The selection committee is made up of three people, consisting of the business manager, executive administrative assistant and deputy director of Parks and Recreation.
