SOLOMONS, Md. — Calvert County’s oldest known resident marked a rare milestone Tuesday as Sue Switzer celebrated her 106th birthday during a gathering at The Hermitage in Solomons.
Sheriff Ricky Cox, accompanied by Sgt. Morgan and Deputy First Class Hendrickson, surprised Switzer on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, to recognize the occasion. The group presented her with flowers, balloons and a ceremonial Sheriff’s Salute in honor of her longevity and place in the community.
Switzer, a longtime Calvert County resident, is recognized as the county’s oldest citizen. Her birthday celebration drew family members, friends and staff, who joined together to mark more than a century of life spanning generations of local and national history.
Cox said the milestone was a significant one for both Switzer and the county, noting that reaching the age of 106 is an extraordinary achievement worthy of recognition.
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office said the visit was intended to honor Switzer’s life and legacy, calling the celebration a moment of pride for the community.
